Hello, I’m Michael.
I’m a husband, father, and grandfather, living in Oklahoma.
Recently, I retired after working for several decades with individuals who had a wide spectrum of disabilities.
These included men and women with developmental disabilities, Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, physical and emotional challenges, as well as people who’d had strokes, brain tumors, and traumatic brain injuries.
During the years I spent working in this field, I realized that individuals with these types of challenges are rarely represented in fiction as complete people. Typically, they are portrayed either as less than independent or someone to be pitied – and rarely are they the central character in a story, more often than not, they’re limited to a minor role.
So, I decided to write fiction that focuses on individuals with challenges who are leading their best lives.
These short stories will, hopefully, touch your heart but also make you stop and think about how men and women with specific challenges are perceived in our society.
Thank you for taking the time to read about people who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect as equals.
